I laid awake in the presence of my self
Yet my mind tiptoed behind my breath
And climbed the stairs to the space
Where I kept you.
Like a vengeful other you clutched me
Your gravity pulling me in
You wrapped around me like tentacles
Threatening to extinguish me.
Yet you gently placed wool over my eyes
And I felt safe in our shared darkness.
The light in me wanted to guide us out
But I knew it wasn’t time.
I was pained with curiosity
Wondering if it would ever truly be.
